Carso Infraestructura y Construcción

In 2018, sales by Carso Infraestructura y Construcción decreased 10.2%, getting to $15.504 billion pesos. This effect results mainly from the completion of some projects (or some stages of said projects), as well as the reduction in the number of public work bids. To compensate the foregoing, the division began its participation in new projects outside Mexico, such as those that relate to road sections in Panama and Nicaragua.

As a result of the foregoing, the division recorded a 22.8% decrease in its operating profits during the year, while the EBITDA adjusted at 18.8% in the period, in comparison with the previous period.

The net controlling profit was $1.216 billion pesos in the year, in comparison with $1.636 billion pesos recognized in 2017, due to a lower participation by the division in infrastructure projects, for which reason the profits went down by 25.7% in 2018.

In addition to several real estate projects, as well as installation services performed for Telecomunicaciones de México, the division participated in other projects during 2018. Among them, the Eastern Discharge Tunnel, the Las Varas-Vallarta road and the construction of the Samalayuca – Sásabe gas duct in Mexico. Likewise, works on road sections in Panama and Nicaragua formed a part of the projects where the division was involved in the year. On the other hand, Carso Infraestructura y Construcción participated in construction works for Runway 3 and a terminal building for the New Mexico City International Airport, known as NAICM or Mexico City Texcoco Airport, although the results of these works were not consolidated.

At the close of 2018, the Carso Infraestructura y Construcción backlog was valued at $21.304 billion pesos, which compares with a value of $12.431 billion pesos corresponding to the previous year. This increase is explained mainly by projects assigned to the division outside Mexico in 2018. As regards the backlog value of projects carried out in consortium with other companies, it was determined at $2.547 billion pesos, with which the total value of the projects portfolio of the division would amount to $23.851 billion pesos at the close of the year.

Finally, capital expenditures carried out by Carso Infraestructura y Construcción during 2018 were valued at $135 million pesos.
